Restler pushes for public accountability on agency subcontract reporting
Restler says reporting subcontract data is already law and management from City Hall plus public accountability are both critical. Garner agrees to work with the Council to make public which agencies are sharing subcontracting data and which are not.
I really appreciate you saying that because, look, this is a management issue.
This is the law.
This has already been the law that they have to report this information.
I think we passed another bill that the Speaker passed earlier this year that further underscored this is the law, that this has to be reported, and agencies don't do it.
I think DDC does it.
Because for a variety of reasons, but I think they have a good new story to tell because they do a terrible job on their, they don't do a great job on their primes, and so they need to highlight their subs or it would be really ugly, so they try to share the information.
I don't know why other agencies don't do it.
Do you have insight into why other agencies don't take this seriously?
I've asked the question, and once again, we proactively now are reaching directly out to agency commissioners on a regular cadence.
And I'm confident that agency commissioners will enforce their respective contract requirements.
Okay.
I really appreciate you saying that.
I really believe strongly that public accountability is key to actually getting agencies to change behavior.
Management from City Hall and public accountability are both critical.
Can we work together to ensure that this information is made public on a regular basis of what agencies are actually sharing the subcontracting data and what aren't so that we know who's taking subcontracting?
To MWB seriously and who isn't?
Certainly.
Certainly.
