Cabán asks why DOC has not implemented independent review of housing denials
Cabán asks whether DOC implemented the task force recommendation for automatic independent review of housing denials within three business days. Colon says DOC has not implemented that specific recommendation but policies are under review under the remediation manager and current leadership.
I want to ask why DOC hasn't implemented the task force's recommendation for automatic independent review of housing denials.
The task force recommended that every denial of gender-aligned housing should be supported by a detailed written decision, identifying the evidence relied on, and receive automatic independent review within three business days by officials who weren't involved in the original decision.
Have you implemented that recommendation?
At this time, we have not implemented that specific recommendation, but I do know, I just want to put this on the record, that our policy is under review.
And actually, many of our policies are under review, particularly now that we're under a remediation manager along with our current leadership.
And so all of our policies are being thoroughly...
Yeah.
Reviewed to make sure that we're taking in these.
Chair, because I'm going to leave to chair another hearing, can I have a couple extra minutes?
I'm going to give you two extra because they said they don't have a problem with it.
Thank you.
I appreciate that.
I just want to say I'm glad that it's being reviewed.
I hope that you take those recommendations to heart and especially making sure that it's the reconsideration process is not merely allowing an individual to request reconsideration, but that it's an automatic independent review.
