Chair asks IBO about recommendations and mental health spending
Brooks-Powers asks if IBO has recommendations and how much the city spends on mental health care in custody. Armbruster says IBO does not make recommendations but hopes its report informs policymakers, and says she can follow up on spending and how it is split between DOC and CHS.
Thank you for that.
Are there specific recommendations to address the mental health crisis in jails?
So IBO doesn't make recommendations.
However, we do hope that our forthcoming report and this testimony can help policymakers
develop programs, as you so decide, that are responsive to the complex needs of these individuals.
And so we hope that our forthcoming report will dive a little bit deeper into that to support your decision-making process.
And do you know how much the city spends on mental health care for people that are in custody with the department?
I did not bring that with us today, but that is something that we can certainly look into and get back to you.
Sure.
And when you let us know, it'll be good to know also how is that spending separated between DOC and CHS?
Absolutely.
Thank you, and thank you for your testimony.
