Chair follows up with Hamilton on 2026 deadlocking court orders
Brooks-Powers asks Hamilton to confirm that her clients were allegedly deadlocked by DOC and when those instances occurred. Hamilton says the cases are from 2026 and that Legal Aid is in contempt proceedings over two court orders. Brooks-Powers asks her to provide documentation to committee staff.
Thank you for that.
And just a follow-up question to your testimony.
So just to confirm, you're saying that you have several clients that have been allegedly deadlocked.
At Department of, like within the Department of Corrections?
Yes, and there's actually two core orders in place, and we're in contempt proceedings in two cases because the Department of Correction has not filed those core orders to clients who have been deadlocked.
And when were these instances that they took place?
Were they in 2026 or prior to?
2026.
One client we had that didn't have a court order was 2025 to 2026, but we have two individuals.
The cases are live.
They're happening.
So we're talking off the top of my head, winter, spring of 2026 and continuing to this day.
If you would not mind to provide the committee staff information about those instances so we can follow up with the department because they just testified under oath that there has not been any deadlocking.
So I'd like to follow up on that.
Yes, we can provide the copy of the court orders and any pleadings that we've initiated to this committee.
Please do.
Thank you.
