Chair Louis questions sewer infrastructure capacity
Chair Louis asks about sewer infrastructure and flooding. Danielle Drake says preliminary analyses submitted to DEP show existing infrastructure can support the building, with a sewer extension along 149th Street and a previously implemented catch basin.
Can you discuss some more the sewer infrastructure in the area, how this large project will connect with the sewer?
I'm very familiar with the area, so I think you guys did an excellent job covering the fact that it's in a flood zone.
But if you could talk about the sewer infrastructure.
Sure.
So the sewer infrastructure there now, we have done preliminary analyses that we've submitted to DEP.
And we've been able to ascertain that the existing infrastructure within the roadway can support this building.
It will require a sewer extension along 149th.
Just to get
physically to the building.
But other than that, the actual sewer infrastructure within the roadway is able to support it, as well as the drainage infrastructure within the roadway.
We actually back in, I want to say 2019, 2020,
made a suggestion to DEP to add a catch basin right in that area, which they have since already implemented within the roadway, which has made a big difference with the flooding in that area.
Have they added enough catch basins?
They have one in an area that was particularly bad.
I know as part of this Jewel Streets plan, really the main goal there is to raise the roadways, which would then also have additional catch basins installed within the roadways.
We still do need to make, you know, as this project goes on, we need to make applications to DEP.
We need to make applications to DOT.
So there's going to be an ongoing conversation with their timeline and how they see this project fitting in with their larger goals for the area.
Okay.
