Rosa-Rodriguez discusses La Junta's cuts and supports Resolution 28
Rosa-Rodriguez says the UPR has suffered unsustainable budget cuts since La Junta arrived in 2016. She argues La Junta acts above the law and supports Resolution 28 to end the fiscal oversight board.
So if the UPR is all this, why?
Then why is it the main target of La Junta, of the Federal Oversight Management Board?
Since their arrival in 2016, the UPR has suffered unsustainable budget cuts.
La Junta acts above the law, avoiding Puerto Rican laws that invest in the university.
We now have less than half of the budget that we should have because of the financial oversight of La Junta.
The Junta has exceeded their financial oversight and are demanding structural, labor, educational, and ideological changes that are not in their purview.
So why dismantle one of the main institutions that can generate economic growth, social mobility, community outreach, access to the best health services in the country, and accessible education for our future generations?
Well, the answer is clear.
Life is not at the center of the agenda of La Junta.
Debt and austerity are because they respond to capital.
They go above state law and take without permission and without accountability.
Puerto Rico is a good land.
laboratory for this anti-democratic experiment that if successful can be reproduced in the states when they need to answer to big capital.
So there are plenty of reasons from Puerto Rico and from the states to call on the United States Congress to end the financial oversight and management board for Puerto Rico.
The faculty of the University of Puerto Rico supports the resolution 28 2026 to end la junta.
Thanks for listening and thanks for the opportunity.
