Rosa-Rodriguez discusses UPR's role and value
Rosa-Rodriguez describes the University of Puerto Rico as the only public university in the archipelago, with 11 campuses. She notes that 75% of all research in Puerto Rico happens at the UPR and that it is the main provider of health services.
So my story is the story of many in Puerto Rico.
I am an alumni of the University of Puerto Rico.
My parents were first-generation college graduates, thanks to the UPR.
The UPR gave my brother and I, my cousins, my neighbors, a way out of poverty.
So the UPR has 11 campuses that guarantee access to education throughout Puerto Rico as the only public university in the archipelago.
It has the highest retention and graduation rates, but the UPR is so much more than an academic institution.
The UPR sustains our country.
Studies have shown that for every dollar invested in the university, there is a return of 1.5.
75% of all research that comes out of Puerto Rico happens in the university.
It's also the main provider of health services in Puerto Rico.
It's the biggest agricultural program with experimental stations and an outreach service to communities as well.
And I could go on and on listing all the ways in which the UPR is essential for us.
