Chair Joseph asks about domestic study away; Holland cites Queens College program

New York City Council · Sep 29, 2026 · starts 1:29:42 · 1 min 12 sec

Chair Joseph asks whether CUNY offers study opportunities in other U.S. states. Holland says Queens College administers a domestic study away program through a fixed set of universities using tuition reciprocity, but CUNY does not require campuses to report domestic study away data.

Rita C. Joseph

Well, thank you.

Rita C. Joseph

Does CUNY offer study opportunities outside of New York City?

Rita C. Joseph

other parts of the U.S., which would be considered, I guess, domestic study abroad?

Rita C. Joseph

Is there any opportunities for students to study in other states?

Member of the Public - Kim Holland

There is a program administered by Queens College.

Member of the Public - Kim Holland

which offers this kind of domestic study away.

Member of the Public - Kim Holland

I don't have numbers on current participation because although all of the campuses send their data on study abroad to my office, they're not required to include data on domestic study away.

Member of the Public - Kim Holland

But I can get that for you.

Rita C. Joseph

Okay.

Rita C. Joseph

Do you have any examples of where they go?

Member of the Public - Kim Holland

Um,

Member of the Public - Kim Holland

It's been a while, so I don't, but it is a fixed set of universities.

Member of the Public - Kim Holland

So it's very much based on the same model as our exchange programs.

Member of the Public - Kim Holland

So students are going to consistent institutions that are used to having our students and that we know have a good track record of taking good care of them, and that we also receive their students.

Member of the Public - Kim Holland

So it's also based on tuition reciprocity.

Member of the Public - Kim Holland

It's a very streamlined way for students to broaden their experience while they're undergraduates.
