Council Member Brewer asks about Fulbright and Marshall tracking
Chair Joseph recognizes Council Member Maloney and a Brewer follow-up. Brewer asks whether CUNY tracks Fulbright and Marshall scholars and how it prepares students for those opportunities.
Councilmember, oh, at first I'd like to recognize Councilmember Maloney.
And the Councilmember Brewer has a follow-up question.
I know several CUNY students who've gotten Fulbrights and Marshalls.
Do you keep track of those, and how do you prepare?
That obviously gives you the opportunity to travel.
No kidding.
So do you keep track?
Maybe there are other similars.
Those are the two I know.
My office, which is the Center for Global Engagement, oversees study abroad and other opportunities as well.
So we are highly engaged in working with our scholarship office, which does the primary advising for those scholarships.
We also work closely with our honors programs, both our Verrazano and Macaulay honors programs, which also is a nice...
Macaulay's in my district.
Which are great feeders for those two, you know, those programs, the Fulbrights, et cetera.
So we do keep track.
I don't have the numbers of students out of one, but I will say the College of Staten Island has been aggressive.
We are now in our fourth year of being a top producer, Hispanic serving institution, top producer of Fulbrights.
And in 2017, we were the top producer of Fulbrights for our category of schools.
So, yes, we do keep track and we put the plaques on our wall.
