Council Member Dinowitz asks about CUNY study abroad enrollment goals
Council Member Eric Dinowitz, a Hunter alum, asks whether CUNY has a goal for study abroad enrollment as a percentage or number. Kim Holland says CUNY wants growth but has no specific target, including within programs like SEEK or ASAP.
Councilmember Dinowitz.
Thank you.
Hello, CUNY.
I'm wearing my hunter purple today as a hunter alum.
What is CUNY's goal for study abroad enrollment, for example, an intended percentage of total student body or enrollment figure?
So that is, that's an excellent question.
I think that we have overall goals of growth, but overall growth alone would not be sufficient.
We really look at how the participation is going to break down in terms of our students who are
traditionally underfunded.
We do see some positive trends in the past when programs such as SEEK and CD and ASAP and ACE have funded their students to study abroad.
We know that there is potential there.
But we also know that just as we see with
advisement patterns where those students in those programs have lower advisement ratios.
We have a vast population of students who are not under the umbrella of any special program, and we need to find ways to reach them as well.
So your general goal is growth?
But you don't have a specific target, even within those specific programs, like within the SEEK program or the ASAP program, we will increase by a certain percentage or a certain number of students.
Those goals don't exist?
