Dinowitz presses for target populations; Holland cites vertical transfer students
Dinowitz asks what groups CUNY wants to reach. Holland identifies vertical transfer students as a major target and says they face mindset and academic integration barriers, including fewer electives and difficulty fitting study abroad into degree plans.
At this point, no.
I think...
That would have to be a conversation with each of those programs.
I would like to see a higher participation of the underrepresented groups, and I think through that we are going to...
What are those?
Can you give an example of what those groups are?
I think by our vertical transfer students are a major group, and that's something that we can target directly by looking at the obstacles those students face.
In addition to the mindset,
obstacles that these students often face.
We also see them having a greater barrier when it comes to academic integration of these opportunities because they tend to have fewer electives available and that does make it harder to study abroad when you have less room in your schedule.
So we need to offer programs that have more courses that fit into their degree plans.
So it sounds like you have
The concept of a plan for a goal.
But it also sounds like you do actually have like a target population where setting a goal
would actually be helpful, even in the raising, you know, the money element as Councilmember Brewer was referencing.
And so you asked for ideas besides asking the council for money, which we always love to give CUNY.
I think setting goals for particular populations lends itself to a better sales pitch for other outside funding or even government funding.
