Stephen Ferst describes tracking software and transfer credit tool
Ferst says CSI and Hunter use application software that tracks student progress and a 43% melt between phases. He also describes a sophisticated transfer credit system being rolled out to show students exactly how overseas courses count back at CUNY.
To add to that, we do use a software that runs our application system at the College of Staten Island.
Hunter has also purchased that software.
After we went through the purchasing process, we were able to help other campuses go through it.
So we do share among campuses those experiences and are trying to expand that.
That does track students.
That does track usage.
That's how we know that 43% melt between one phase and another phase might happen.
So that is one other way that then we can go back and target why.
Why are we seeing that melt?
What are these particular students dropping off for, and how do we address that in particular?
Another of our campuses have developed a very sophisticated transfer credit.
System so that a student can look at a course overseas and see exactly what it's going to count for back at CUNY.
And it builds itself every time a new student does a new program.
That is being rolled out across, I think in about six weeks, going to be presented to all the other campuses to be rolled out perhaps to all the campuses.
So any student throughout the entire system will be able to, similar to the T-Rex system if you're familiar with that, that's a transfer internally mostly in CUNY, this would allow our students to know what they can take abroad and exactly what it's going to count for.
So we do start to share systems that try to lower those barriers.
