Honda details city programs: watch parties, tickets, 24-7 soccer fields
Honda says the success was not guaranteed and resulted from administration efforts to engage businesses and host events. She cites more than 100 free watch parties, 1,000 affordable tickets, and soccer fields open 24-7 in every borough.
But I want to be clear.
The success of this tournament and the benefits that it brought to New Yorkers were not guaranteed.
They were the direct result of the Mamdani administration's efforts to engage businesses of all kind, drive foot traffic to every borough, and host events for every New Yorker.
To make sure that New Yorkers could be a part of this historic tournament, we hosted more than 100 free watch parties in our parks, plazas, and public spaces.
We secured 1,000 affordable tickets to World Cup matches for New Yorkers and kept soccer fields in every borough open 24-7 to give people a place to play long after the sun had set.
