Honda praises regional transportation coordination during World Cup
Honda commends the host committee and New York-New Jersey coordination, saying people got to matches and home successfully despite past MetLife event problems. She says the lesson is to start early and maintain coordination from City Hall.
Yes, that's a great question.
I actually really want to commend the host committee, New York, New Jersey.
I think, you know, we all have seen the headlines of events at MetLife and what they can and have looked like in the past in terms of our ability to get people from here to there.
And by and large, we did not see that.
We saw people really successfully, even amidst a Knicks game five win, people got where they were going in time for kickoff and then they got home.
And so I really want to shout that out because that was not a given.
And I think also want to give a lot of kudos to folks at DOT, CECM, even stretching back like PD, FDNY, so many folks stretching back two to three years.
I think that level of coordination and professionalism over the course of several years really led to a good outcome.
So I think lesson learned from that, frankly, is start early and continue that throughout.
And we had some continuity there with the folks who were doing that work.
Aside from that, in terms of lessons learned, I do think it was...
really, really important that we had that coordination from City Hall because we were able to pivot, make quick decisions, and adapt to changing situations on the ground when special circumstances arose.
