Kreamer explains $2B total and 12,100 jobs supported

New York City Council · Sep 30, 2026 · starts 0:28:31 · 1 min 23 sec

Kreamer says $1.2 billion in direct spending plus about $700 million in indirect and induced effects yields the $2 billion figure. He says the 12,100 jobs are supported jobs, not necessarily new jobs, and the analysis cannot distinguish temporary from permanent.

Justin Kreamer

And so that number, again, for New York City specifically, is about $700,000 added on top of the direct spending.

Justin Kreamer

So 1.2, sorry, 1.3 plus $700,000 is how we.

Justin Kreamer

We got to the $2 billion number.

Justin Kreamer

And the same process works out for the regional numbers that you all have cited as well before, which was the regionals.

Justin Kreamer

It was $1.9 billion in direct spending and $3.5 billion in overall economic impact.

Justin Kreamer

I can also answer the question on the job supported as well, I believe that was part of it.

Justin Kreamer

Yeah, cool.

Virginia Maloney

I'm learning a lot.

Virginia Maloney

Yes.

Justin Kreamer

I feel like I'm a professor slowly breaking down by step by step.

Justin Kreamer

So the way that the job supported was calculated is by sector.

Justin Kreamer

They track each dollar that is spent can be attributed to supporting a job or multiple jobs within that sector.

Justin Kreamer

And so based off that total spending broken up by the sectors, it then multiplies that dollar by the number of jobs that dollar supported.

Justin Kreamer

And that's how the 12,100 jobs was calculated.

Justin Kreamer

And to be clear, those aren't new jobs.

Justin Kreamer

Those are jobs that are supported.

Justin Kreamer

There may be some new jobs that were in there, seasonal jobs that came in, full-time jobs, but you can't distinguish that through the analysis.
