Mamana concludes tourism investment yielded citywide impact
Mamana says the World Cup showed what New York can achieve with coordinated citywide effort. She argues sustained destination marketing can turn global attention into visitation and economic opportunity across all five boroughs.
The World Cup demonstrated what New York City can achieve when a global moment is matched by a coordinated citywide effort.
Thanks to our partners at the mayor's office, council, borough presidents, Maya Handa, EDC, SBS, the bids and all the chambers, and sustained investment in tourism marketing that turns global attention into visitation and economic impact.
We saw international visitor spending grow across multiple boroughs, hotel demand rise beyond Manhattan, engagement increase citywide, hundreds of local businesses participating, and a global campaign that reached millions with a clear message, New York City welcomes the world.
The additional 4.5 investment allowed us to reach potential visitors at a scale we otherwise could not have achieved, particularly through outdoor and programmatic digital advertising.
Our programs then gave those audiences concrete reasons to explore, engage, and spend throughout New York City.
The city's investment in tourism during the World Cup is an example of how tourism yields significant impact across the five boroughs.
With sustained investment in destination marketing, New York City can continue to compete for high-spending visitors from around the world who explore every borough, turning that visitation into economic opportunity throughout the city.
