Q&A

Riley asks about tracking visitors staying in New Jersey and Airbnbs

New York City Council · Sep 30, 2026 · starts 1:20:03 · 1 min 5 sec

Riley says many visitors stayed across the Hudson in New Jersey and asks whether the city tracks short-term rentals or homeowner hosting. Mamana says NYC Tourism does not track Airbnb data.

Kevin C. Riley

Lastly, I believe the chief marketing officer stated that you guys are only tracking what's happening here in the five boroughs when it comes to lodging.

Kevin C. Riley

I would encourage to see what's happening because we do know a lot of people did stay across the Hudson in New Jersey during this World Cup, even though they wanted to stay in New York City.

Kevin C. Riley

Did you guys also track outside of hotels, maybe short-term rentals with homeowners?

Kevin C. Riley

Is that also data that's being tracked that was being utilized during the World Cup?

Nancy Mamana

Yeah, unfortunately, no, we don't track Airbnb data at all.

Kevin C. Riley

Okay.

Kevin C. Riley

All right.

Kevin C. Riley

I think you should look into that possibly because I do know we got a lot.

Kevin C. Riley

I represent a home ownership district, and they wanted to benefit from the World Cup as well.

Kevin C. Riley

And that could have put.

Kevin C. Riley

tremendous restraints on a lot of them from doing it because of the current model.

Kevin C. Riley

So if we could just look into that as well.

Kevin C. Riley

Thank you, Chairs.
