SBS describes notification to businesses on Midtown truck restrictions
Thomas-Henry asks how and when SBS notified affected Midtown businesses about truck delivery restrictions. Gross says DOT managed the closures and SBS spoke to BIDs, chambers, merchants associations, and commissaries two weeks ahead of time.
The city restricted, this is an SBS question, the city restricted truck deliveries in Midtown on all eight match days, and some Midtown businesses reported being unaware of the restrictions shortly before the tournament began.
How and when did SBS notify affected businesses, and did SBS receive complaints about missed deliveries, and how were those addressed?
Thank you, Council Member.
So DOT, as they were managing all of the competing logistical needs of the city, determined to proceed, and the administration determined to proceed with closures.
And in the planning of the decision on the closures, we were involved in determining
who would be reaching out to which stakeholders, and SBS was on the ground.
We spoke to our business improvement district partners.
DOT spoke to them as well.
We spoke to chambers, merchants associations.
And SBS, we thought to also ensure that street vendors are not impacted by these delivery restrictions.
So what we did is the truck deliveries,
or not coming to the vendors themselves, but they go to commissaries.
And we intentionally made sure every single commissary in the impacted area ahead of time, two weeks ahead of time, was aware of the restrictions that they were going to be faced so that vendors could plan for that impact in their street vending operations.
