Thomas-Henry questions expedited infrastructure without community input
Thomas-Henry asks whether it was fair to expedite infrastructure projects without community board or community input. Honda says the city was excited about long-term improvements but needs to get back on process specifics.
Czar, you had mentioned some of the great infrastructure projects related to the World Cup that was done.
And while I know many of my colleagues in many communities may have appreciated it,
but do you think it was fair or appropriate to expedite city-related infrastructure projects without any community board or community input or heads up that it was happening?
We were very, very excited to be able to create long-term improvements to city infrastructure across the five boroughs for the support of visitor travel as well as resident travel.
And that was extremely important to us was to see that long-term benefit.
As far as the process, I would need to get back to you on the specifics of the process, but our hope is that it continues to be of benefit to both folks in the surrounding communities who can hopefully benefit from safer bus lanes or faster buses,
or safer bike lanes, sorry, and faster buses, as well as future visitors.
Okay, and the genesis of that question is one of those bike lanes was in the adjacent community, but sits in the community board that I represent, which is Community Board 3, where there was a bus lane put in to expedite travel from LaGuardia Airport.
While I see the sense of getting visitors, it was a hardship to community, and there was no insight or input or just a heads up.
We understand that getting travelers around safely and more efficiently works, but also
in that same corridor, there was nothing done to improve access to the number seven line, where visitors going to the FanFest in Queens could have stopped at, say, 103rd Street and visited.
Corona Plaza.
Currently that station, you can't even get off there if you're coming in from Manhattan.
So just to look at things.
that would infrastructure that would help the communities and not just the visitors coming to New York City.
