Brooks-Powers asks what staffing level avoids stretching resources
Brooks-Powers asks what the right number is so the peninsula is covered without feeling stretched. Sirocco says FDNY can handle multi-incident deployments by moving assets from other boroughs and notes that during the storm it added a fifth firefighter to peninsula engines and added a fifth engine on Cross Bay.
And that's the point I was getting to, like the thinning out piece.
So, like, what is that sweet number where...
It's sufficient, but it's not.
Feeling like you're kind of stretched?
Well, you know, I mean, obviously we can handle multi-incidents in our city the way we deploy our assets.
So we'll pull assets from other boroughs, you know, on targeted areas that we feel need coverage.
So I think our dispatchers alone, our chief of department, do a great job in reassigning assets.
to locations to make sure they're properly covered.
You know, for example, over the weekend, we also added some additional staffing during the storm.
We added a fifth firefighter to all the engines on the peninsula because of, you know, it's isolated.
So we took care of that.
We also added a fifth fire engine 331 on Cross Bay.
Again, these additional staffing in case they were, you know, we were looking at the weather forecast that that would be possibly flooded.
So we wanted to be proactive in adding that additional staffing.
So all those things combined, I think overall we do a pretty good job in moving our assets around to have substantial coverage in every area by backfilling the rockaways and bringing assets and spreading them out.
I think we do a pretty good.
The fifth firefighter is great during the flood area, and it does substantially help us.
They're great all the time.
We would love to keep the fifth.
