Chair Ariola asks EMS about Rockaways response times and resources
Ariola asks about EMS response. Chief Paul Maiano says EMS response times in the Rockaways are lower than the citywide average, with a station co-located with an engine company housing 10 EMS units, including seven BLS, three ALS, and two hazmat ambulances, plus summer gator units and drone coordination.
Right, so that's with fire response.
What about EMS response?
So similarly for EMS, our response times are lower than the average citywide response times in the Rockaways.
We do have one station on the Rockaways that's co-located.
with an engine company.
It houses 10 units, 10 EMS units.
Seven of them are BLS units.
Three of them are advanced life support units.
And of those 10 units, two of them are also members of our Special Operations Command.
They're hazardous materials ambulances.
Also during the summer, we put out two gator units on the beaches in the Rockaways.
We work very closely with the fire department's drone unit on those beaches to be able to respond quicker.
