Q&A

Chair Ariola asks FDNY about Local Law 134 QR codes on fire vehicles

New York City Council · Sep 30, 2026 · starts 0:16:21 · 1 min 9 sec

Ariola asks whether FDNY posted QR codes on vehicles to distribute residential fire emergency response guides under Local Law 134 and what percentage of the fleet is complete. Assistant Chief John Sirocco says FDNY began posting QR codes on fire apparatus over the past year and that all fire-operation vehicles involved in fire response have them.

Joann Ariola

And for the FDMY, with regard to Local Law 134 of 2025, the law

Joann Ariola

also requires FDMY to distribute the guide at the scene of residential fires using a quick response or QR code posted on FDMY vehicles.

Joann Ariola

Has the QR code been posted on the vehicles?

Joann Ariola

And if so, how many or the percentage of the fleet have been completed or started?

John Sirocco

Thank you for that question.

John Sirocco

Yeah, we have posted QR codes as far as the data is the amount.

John Sirocco

I don't have that information, but we have started that process a while ago over the last year of posting QR codes on a fire apparatus.

John Sirocco

So victims of fires can scan it and get information regarding the Red Cross.

John Sirocco

You have.

John Sirocco

All vehicles that are involved in fire response have them.

John Sirocco

So all the vehicles in the fire department on the fire operation side does have QR codes on their apparatus.

John Sirocco

Yes.
