Chair Abreu asks about infrastructure features of crash locations
Abreu asks if DOT tracks infrastructural features of locations where serious crashes occur, and Flynn says they do a robust post-crash process and will follow up with specific breakdowns.
Does the administration track the infrastructural features of locations where serious and fatal micromobility-involved crashes occur?
For example, do you know what percentage of crashes occur on streets without protected bike infrastructure, without adequate street lighting, without traffic calming measures, etc.?
Thank you, Chair.
So we do a really robust post-crash process.
We have a team that goes out following NYPD to inspect the scene of a serious or fatal crash.
They look to identify any immediate fixes that are needed, and then our safety planning team will develop any medium-term improvements that can address either that fatality or crash or just other issues.
We certainly do a series of different kinds of studies looking at different aspects of safety, whether it's correlating it to the type of bike infrastructure or other kinds of infrastructure.
I don't think I have the numbers here.
So let's first say that you do, but the administration does track infrastructural features of locations.
Where serious and fatal micromobility-involved crashes occur, correct?
Yes.
Okay, and if you can please follow up with my office with those specific breakdowns.
That would be very helpful.
Happy to.
