Chair Epstein asks about helmet data and infrastructure in crashes
Epstein asks if data is collected on helmet use and infrastructure in crashes, and Chief Obey says they collect helmet data but not infrastructure data.
And just for these intersections, do we have data about whether helmets were used if it was a bicycle crash?
Like, do we have that kind of data?
There was a fatality.
Do we know if someone had a helmet on or didn't?
Like, it was a car.
And, like, do we, do you, are we collecting that data?
I'm sorry, could you repeat the question?
Yeah, so if we have a fatality in an intersection and we're determining this high crash area, are we also evaluating whether people, if there was an injury of someone on a bike or a scooter,
was a helmet being used, were there safety measures, was it in a bike lane, near a bike lane, a bus lane, kind of what the infrastructure was in those intersections?
So not the infrastructure for sure, but the type of device, whether or not the deceased had a helmet, yes.
