Chair Epstein highlights urgent safety challenges and fatalities
Epstein notes 20 cyclist fatalities this year, a recent pedestrian death in Central Park, and a 15-year-old killed in his district, and says there is no easy fix.
One of the most urgent challenges is to reduce the rate of injury and death to pedestrians and micromobility users.
There have been 20 cyclist fatalities so far this year, most recently just on Monday.
And on Sunday we learned of the tragic death of a pedestrian who was hit by a cyclist in Central Park.
I look forward to a robust conversation about how we can improve the micro-ability safety and the legislation before us today.
So reflect of the 15 year old, a little over a week ago, who passed away in my district operating an e-bike.
