Chair Epstein welcomes attendees and discusses e-bike growth
Harvey Epstein, chair of Consumer Worker Protection, welcomes everyone, notes the increase in e-bikes and e-scooters, and discusses the challenges of chaotic streets and illegal devices.
Thank you, Speaker Menon and Majority Leader O'Brie and Chair Felice for holding this hearing.
My name is Harvey Epstein.
I'm the chair of the Consumer Worker Protection Committee.
You know, the city has experienced a tremendous increase in e-bikes, e-scooters over the last decade.
Getting New Yorkers out of cars is something we should celebrate.
However, the growth comes at a...
challenge for New Yorkers, creating a sense of chaos in the streets sometimes, exacerbating the prevalence of illegal devices.
The city's bike lanes are used by devices going many different speeds, many different places, spaces, double parking, and discontinuing of the network, putting people in very dangerous situations.
