Council Member Hanif calls for regulating companies and investing in infrastructure
Hanif says the conversation cannot begin with incarceration and fines, but must lead with city planning, fair scheduling, education, trade-ins, and compassion.
We want to have our cake delivered by Grubhub and eat it too.
E-mobility devices are increasingly becoming a staple on our streets.
According to Transportation Alternatives, one in 10 New Yorkers reports using one, and 40% of people in bike lanes are riding them.
We must thoughtfully regulate these devices and the companies that profit from their use.
That conversation cannot begin with the loudest voices, incarceration, fines, and confiscations.
We must lead with robust city planning, fair scheduling, education, trade-ins, retrofits, compassion, and dignity.
I look forward to hearing from the agency staff before us, my constituents of Good Neighbors at Good Neighbors of Park Slope, and members of the public as we have this important discussion about micromobility safety.
Thank you.
Cheers.
Thank you.
Council Member Hudson, followed by Shulman.
