Council Member Hudson introduces pre-considered intro banning use of Class 3 e-bikes
Hudson introduces T2026-2361, which would ban the use of Class 3 e-bikes after a two-year implementation period, with civil penalties beginning in 2029 and no criminal penalties.
The second bill, pre-considered intro T2026-2361, would ban use of Class 3 e-bikes after a two-year implementation period, with civil penalties beginning in spring 2029.
With a lengthy implementation period, workers would have ample time to utilize their existing bikes until the end of their useful life, at which point they could either buy a new bike compliant with Intro 244,
rent an e-bike, or add a speed limiter or lower-powered motor to effectively convert non-compliant bikes to a Class 2 e-bike.
Importantly, there are no criminal penalties.
Together, these bills meet the objective of removing the fastest e-bikes off of our streets while providing ample opportunity for those who currently use Class 3 e-bikes for work to make necessary adjustments.
