Jacqueline Savage testifies on need for e-vehicle accountability
Jacqueline Savage, 77, says crossing streets has become terrifying due to e-vehicles, and calls for Priscilla's Law and banning e-vehicles from parks.
I'd like to start by thanking Julie Menon for holding this hearing.
My name is Jacqueline Savage.
I will turn 77 on October 13th.
I'm here to state the urgent need to pass Priscilla's Law, Intro 0802 and Intro 0377.
Crossing the streets of New York City has become a nightmare.
I shouldn't have to turn my head around in all directions, as well as use my peripheral vision to see e-vehicles approaching me from all sides on a daily basis.
It's terrifying.
I am not Linda Blair.
My head goes straight ahead and turns left and right.
That's it.
Not 360 degrees around.
Why are e-vehicles exempt from following the rules of the road?
Cars need to do this to maintain order and safety.
It's unconscionable that this situation exists.
My fellow seniors, as well as people with disabilities, are the most
vulnerable.
Doesn't anyone care about these vulnerable groups, let alone other pedestrians?
We need safe streets for all, pedestrians, cars, and bikes of all kinds.
Our parks need to be free from e-bikes, e-scooters, and the like, so people can truly enjoy the respite
that parks provide rather than have these e-vehicles surrounding us.
That's why we need common sense legislation.
Thank you for your testimony.
