Susan Simon testifies on lack of accountability and Priscilla's Law
Susan Simon says 20 EVSA victims were forced to leave before testifying, criticizes the delay on Priscilla's Law, and argues that undocumented workers can get driver's licenses without ICE arrests.
Hello, I'm Susan.
My apologies for interrupting you, Susan.
I just want to remind members of the public that this is a formal government proceeding and that decorum shall be observed at all times.
Failure to maintain decorum can result in removal.
Please keep it down in the chambers.
Thank you very much.
Sorry, you may go ahead.
Proceed.
I'm Susan Simon, and I'd like to say for the record that 20 of our victims at EFSA were forced to leave at the four-hour point.
I think that does a disservice to everyone.
I have tried for five years, my community and I have tried to cope with and navigate the street, sidewalk, and parks of New York, trying to avoid the danger and havoc of unregulated electric motor e-bikes.
For almost that long, effective bills like Priscilla's Law
have sat in this body and the state legislature languishing in what can only be viewed as a betrayal of the safety and security of the public realm.
While the number of serious injuries has exploded, we've been told that Priscilla's law licensing and registering e-bikes would threaten many undocumented delivery workers.
In fact, during Commissioner Tish's application of C summonses that had some teeth to hold riders accountable for traffic infractions and accidents,
There was not a single report.
Of an ICE arrest of anyone appearing in court to answer a cease summons.
This is intended fear-mongering by those entities opposing any regulation or accountability for riders who do so recklessly.
It's a fact that undocumented workers can get New York driver's licenses for cars at the DMV and do so in spite of their status.
Apparently, lawmakers are really not as concerned about this as they appear to be.
Thank you for your testimony.
And please, for folks who are cut off by the two-minute remarks, please submit your testimony.
Any info online would be greatly appreciated.
