Mohamed Riyadh testifies on pressure from delivery apps
Mohamed Riyadh describes being given multiple orders with impossible deadlines, leading to reduced on-time performance and deactivation, and asks the council to listen to delivery workers.
Good afternoon, council members.
My name is Mohamed Riyadh.
I am a worker at Delivery in New York City for almost three years.
And I'm organizer and leader, Worker Justice Project and Law Service Unido.
I'm here to share my concern about into 2361, into 2587,
Intro 998.6.
While those bills are processed, it's safely misused.
Delivery workers are considered those could result more tickets and greater pressure from delivery workers'platform.
Delivery workers already face significant risks.
For traffic, weather, and unrealistic deliveries and deadlines.
I experienced those pressure myself last week while working from a grab up in the rain.
I was given multiple orders with the same delivery deadlines, making it physically impossible to meet all of them safely.
As a result,
My on-time performance was reduced, and I was unable to work next two weeks.
If the council member wants to take some safety for delivery workers, if we needed more protected by clients in area,
their delivery workers around.
Responsible delivery platform
timeframe and that do not encourage safe riding and more parking area for the bicycle,
stronger protection against the deactivation, meaningful input from delivery workers than safely policies for double up.
We all want safe streets and safe work conditions.
Delivery workers want to do our jobs, support our family, and return home safely.
I respectfully ask the councils to listen to delivery workers and include our voice in decisions that affect our safety and livelihood.
Thank you for your time and thanks so much.
