Ron Wisniewski testifies on e-bike lobby and campaign contributions
Ron Wisniewski criticizes the influence of Transportation Alternatives and campaign contributions from Uber, and calls for Priscilla's Law to license, register, and insure e-vehicles.
Thank you, Mr.
Majority Leader.
My name is Ron Wisniewski.
I had hoped that this would be a serious effort to finally implement common sense enforcement solutions to end the dangerous, chaotic free-for-all on our streets that's been going on for five years that allows selfish and titled
e-bike riders who have made our lives a living hell do exactly what they please without any accountability for their actions.
No such luck with what you've shown us.
Calling the shots here are the e-bike lobbyists from Transportation Alternatives and their partners on City Council, who they have, who they manage to employ through their clients.
For example, Sean, you received $259,000 from Uber in a campaign contribution.
You're smiling.
That's a pretty good haul.
I appreciate it.
Congratulations.
But does that make you, does that color your judgment?
I bet it does.
I bet it does.
Now, Priscilla's law would license, register, and insure all e-vehicles, finally making effective enforcement of existing laws possible.
Now, what's wrong with that?
Sounds pretty reasonable to me.
Well, TransAlt explains that...
They recklessly plow.
the race card to explain that without evidence that license plates would empower the NYPD to target immigrants and exploit poor people of color colluding with ICE to deport anyone they please.
Now, but that's not the reason.
They do it to make money.
They fear that it will depress the profits of their clients, Uber, Lyft, DoorDash, etc.
TransAlt doesn't care about immigrants and the poor.
They're soulless.
They victim shame and parse the details of the deaths of people killed by e-bikes with despicable cruelty.
I've seen them do it.
I've seen them do it to the victims that are in this room that are testifying before you.
And you are going to allow them to get away with that?
I've lost my time, but thank you very much.
Thank you.
Next.
