Kathleen Conry testifies on need for equal accountability
Kathleen Conry says she has lived in Hell's Kitchen for 50 years and is still alive, and calls for all road users to obey the rules and for Priscilla's Law.
Good afternoon to what's left of the City Council, and thank you.
My name is Kathleen Conry.
I've lived in aptly named Hell's Kitchen for nearly 50 years, and surprisingly, I'm still alive.
I first addressed this council two years ago when hopeful that Priscilla's law would be passed, as it seems like a no-brainer for those who are using their brain.
But it seems that it's not even on the ballot or voting for.
That is shocking.
Good God, what are you waiting for?
Oh, more people to die.
I am not advocating that e-bikes, scooters, city bikes, etc.
Be banned.
That would be ridiculous.
They all need to have their rights on the road.
But it is imperative that all people, pedestrians, car drivers, truckers, buses, anyone who chooses to use bikes of any kind, obey the rules of the road.
We all need to be equally accountable to the law.
And if you don't support that, you shouldn't even be here.
But, oh, on the other hand, seriously, folks, I should thank you for not passing Priscilla's law.
You've made me a better citizen and a more careful pedestrian because I now realize that I am the only person capable of maintaining my own safety.
Now, I encourage people, other people on the street, to be vigilant, watching bikes back and forth, back and forth, or not to use their phones while crossing in crosswalks.
We all need to be as responsible as those we are afraid of who are not.
So it's time for you to do your part.
What you agreed to do when elected.
Or just do the right thing.
For all New Yorkers, pedestrians, tourists, families, teenagers, oh yeah, and even strangers.
If we all follow the law, Priscilla's law.
Thank you very much.
You're welcome.
Next.
