Okay.

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

Good afternoon, members of the City Council.

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

My name is Yadira Sanchez, co-founder of the Workers'Justice Project and organizing director of Los Deliveristas Unidos.

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

I am here to oppose Intro 2361, Intro 2587, and Intro 986, and to call on the City Council to add the strong just cause deactivation protections to every bill affecting delivery workers.

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

I am really sorry for all of the accidents people had.

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

I am really sorry that you have to go through this.

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

But believe me, delivery workers cannot afford safety.

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

It is not on their hands to decide how much speed they're going through, how much speed they're driving.

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

They cannot afford safety.

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

Why?

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

Because companies are pushing them to deliver faster and faster.

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

I know and I heard that some companies were here saying lies.

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

Only whenever they were crossing the bridge, they were calculating the time.

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

It is not true.

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

Since February to June, we have seen 4,000 workers with deactivations, lateness, low rating from customers complaining about being late.

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

It is not true.

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

Workers cannot afford safety, not even for them nor for the people.

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

And delivery workers are not the only ones that are supposed to be.

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

handling all these responsibilities.

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

There are many regular drivers.

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

There are many people that need to take account into this issue, not only the delivery workers.

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

We want safer streets.

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

All of us want safer streets.

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

We must address the pressure workers face every day and close the loopholes in Intro 1332 before it takes effect next year.

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

Workers need protection from all forms of deactivation, not only permanent deactivations.

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

Apps can temporarily lock workers out, cut their access to schedules, and put them back on waiting lists.

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

On our new report driven by algorithms based on more than 800 delivery workers shows that is happening on our, what is happening on our street.

Member of the Public - Yadira Sanchez

Thank you so much.
