Q&A

Farías asks how OCS will connect DV organizations with violence interrupters

New York City Council · Sep 30, 2026 · starts 0:56:16 · 1 min 42 sec

Farías asks how OCS will facilitate relationships between domestic and gender-based violence organizations and gun violence prevention and violence interrupter programs. Delany-Brumsey cites advisory councils, cross-team work, and potential Family Justice Center-like models.

Amanda C. Farías

And then just a couple of few additional questions.

Amanda C. Farías

How will OCS facilitate relationships between domestic and gender-based violence organizations and other key partners, including violence interrupter programs and gun violence prevention organizations?

Ayesha Delany-Brumsey

That's a great question.

Ayesha Delany-Brumsey

And that's something that we are doing now and that we intend to continue to build out a variety of ways of doing that work.

Ayesha Delany-Brumsey

I think it will happen in a number of ways.

Ayesha Delany-Brumsey

Part of it is as the team grows into a more cohesive team across the office and they are sharing.

Ayesha Delany-Brumsey

sharing best practices, sharing ways of working, that they will naturally also be bringing their partners with them.

Ayesha Delany-Brumsey

Other ways that we are doing that is we, of course, have existing advisory councils.

Ayesha Delany-Brumsey

I anticipate that as we continue to expand, we'll have existing ways to bring together our providers in other advisory bodies, meetings, and we'll work to include a range of different providers.

Ayesha Delany-Brumsey

We are also, as we build out new initiatives around public safety, one of the focuses of that work is to think about

Ayesha Delany-Brumsey

What are initiatives that address multiple different forms of violence?

Ayesha Delany-Brumsey

And so how do we do that in a comprehensive way?

Ayesha Delany-Brumsey

One of the lovely things about the Family Justice Center is it's a comprehensive approach to addressing domestic and gender-based violence.

Ayesha Delany-Brumsey

It has lots of different providers embedded within it.

Ayesha Delany-Brumsey

I could imagine models like that happening in different spaces across our work, including providers in the domestic and gender-based violence space, the gun violence space, the hate crimes prevention space.

Ayesha Delany-Brumsey

This is...

Ayesha Delany-Brumsey

This is not me saying a new program.

Ayesha Delany-Brumsey

This is just me saying how I imagine that as we build out, we will continue to ensure that we're pulling on the right people to provide a more holistic approach to this really challenging issue.
