Farías asks how OCS will engage NGBV Advisory Council recommendations
Farías notes the NGBV Advisory Council sent a February meeting request and recommendations that went unanswered before Executive Order 15. Delany-Brumsey acknowledges early slowness and says the administration later responded and met with the council, while Sethi says new funding reflected advisory asks.
Okay.
In February, the NGBV Advisory Council sent a meeting request to the administration and a list of community-informed recommendations, but did not receive a response before the announcement of Executive Order 15.
How will OCS engage with recommendations from NGBV's Advisory Council in the future?
Absolutely.
So we acknowledged some slowness, some missteps in some of the early communication.
However, the administration has been working very hard to correct that.
We did respond to that letter.
We also met direct myself, the deputy mayor of community safety, met with the NGBV advisory council.
We are continuing to have those meetings.
We are continuing to have site visits.
And in that letter,
We responded with how some of the feedback from the advocates and advisory council had influenced some of the work that NGBV did, including some of the recent investments.
And I can turn to Commissioner Sate for some additional details there.
Yeah, I mean, I think, you know, when you look at the new funding that we received, some of those asks really came directly from the advisory council letter and in an effort to be responsive to what our advocates were asking for, including the funding for culturally specific services, including the funding for,
you know, grassroots and survivor-led orgs, and including funding for existing programs, right?
I think what we came up with in that $15.7 million was reflective of new things, as well as understanding that our existing programs also need more because they're doing a lot with very little and have been.
And so we need to end what we're continuing to see people with higher levels of need.
And I'd say in addition to sort of ongoing partnership with the advisory council, we're also working on site visits and listening sessions that we will continue to do and hosted one just yesterday at the Bronx FJC with a deputy mayor and her team, which was really, really nice.
Great, thank you.
Also, apologies.
We've been joined by Councilmember Jennifer Gutierrez as well.
