Council Member Restler discusses 289 Kent Avenue and thanks staff

New York City Council · Oct 6, 2026 · starts 0:05:51 · 1 min 6 sec

Restler describes the 289 Kent waterfront project at the old Vice headquarters, notes nearly 300 units and support for Gallion Arts, thanks his team and the land use team, and asks colleagues to support the projects.

Lincoln Restler

Secondly, we're rezoning 289 Kent, which is right on the waterfront in Williamsburg.

Lincoln Restler

This site may be familiar to many here.

Lincoln Restler

It was the old headquarters for Vice.

Lincoln Restler

It's a vacant building, and we're going to be building some housing.

Lincoln Restler

Modeled kind of after the building just down the block at 325 Kent, this will be a step-down kind of housing development with more density on the Kent side, less density toward White.

Lincoln Restler

We'll be generating nearly 300 units of housing here, so we're adding about 1,000 units of housing across our district today.

Lincoln Restler

And these are really good projects.

Lincoln Restler

The owner at 289 Kent is also very graciously helping to support one of the cultural organizations in our community to help them stay in our neighborhood long term.

Lincoln Restler

Gallion Arts, which I really appreciate.

Lincoln Restler

I really want to thank my team for their hard work on this, particularly Hana Aida and Molly Haley.

Lincoln Restler

And I want to thank the land use team for their smart and thoughtful advice.

Lincoln Restler

Lena, Brian, William, Ann, and Omar, whoever else helped, thank you all.

Lincoln Restler

I really appreciate you.

Lincoln Restler

And I hope my colleagues will support these projects.

Lincoln Restler

They're really good projects that are the right type of development for our community long term.
