Phillips outlines capacity building and hiring plans
Phillips says NYC Public Schools is hiring 200 additional employees across early childhood and other offices to support expansion, including instructional coaches, social workers, and contracting analysts.
As we support implementation this year, we are also preparing for the next phase of 2K.
The program launched this fall with 2,000 seats across five school districts and will grow to serve 12,000 children across all five boroughs in fall of 2027.
Expansion at this scale requires the capacity and infrastructure to support it.
That means improving how we enroll and connect families to programs, how we support providers and educators, and how we manage critical operational functions such as contracting, procurement, and payments.
Some of this work is specific to 2K, but
Much of this is about strengthening the systems that support early childhood programs more broadly.
To support that work, New York City Public Schools is hiring an additional 200 employees across early childhood and other agency offices.
Many of the systems our programs depend on go beyond the division.
And building this capacity will allow us to deepen our coordination, address longstanding operational challenges, and better support a growing early childhood system.
As we prepare for continued expansion, we need to make sure the systems behind 2K grow stronger along with the program.
We are not only preparing to serve more children,
We are building the capacity to connect families to those opportunities and support quality consistently across a much larger system.
