Santosuosso asks about waitlist rollover to next year

New York City Council · Oct 7, 2026 · starts 0:46:33 · 1 min 15 sec

Santosuosso asks how waitlists will roll into next year's applications. Liss explains program-specific waitlists remain open year-round, and children eligible for 2K this year will be eligible for 3K next year.

Kayla Santosuosso

You mentioned that there was a wait list, I believe.

Kayla Santosuosso

And so how are you going to roll the wait list into next year's applications?

Kayla Santosuosso

What's the plan there?

Emmy Liss

So families who applied to 2K were added to the wait list under a few different circumstances.

Emmy Liss

And they are program-specific wait lists similar to 3K and pre-K.

Emmy Liss

So if you're a family who applied to 2K and you got your fourth choice on your application, you were automatically placed on the wait list for your first, second, and third choices.

Emmy Liss

If you applied to 2K and you did not get an offer at all, unfortunately, you were automatically placed on the wait list for every program you applied to.

Emmy Liss

And additionally, families who've subsequently sort of expressed interest in 2K can do so by adding themselves to program wait lists.

Emmy Liss

Those wait lists will remain open year round.

Emmy Liss

So as a program has a vacancy, they go to that wait list and they can call through families in the order they are on the wait list to offer them a spot on the spot.

Emmy Liss

For next year, the children who were eligible for 2K this year will all be eligible for 3K next year.

Emmy Liss

And 3K as a full universal program, we can accommodate all.

Emmy Liss

children who apply.

Emmy Liss

So all of those families will be able to get a 3K seat next year.

Kayla Santosuosso

Okay.
