Epstein asks how many apply for pedicab lottery and who is denied
Epstein asks how many businesses applied for the lottery and what percentage are turned down. Ortiz says 311 pedicab businesses have applied since 2024, and denials or revocations happen more at renewal or inspection than at the lottery stage.
Since 2024, we've had 311 pedicab businesses apply for the lottery.
Each year or just they get renewal every year?
Renewals as well.
So what percentage of people get turned down who apply?
I'm not sure if we're turning down people at the lottery stage.
It's more once you're a pedicab business and you apply for the lottery, you can get the plate.
We do a qualifying inspection.
That's the annual inspection to ensure that the vehicle is compliant.
If you've received a plate and we inspect you and your vehicle is not compliant, we would take that plate back and you're not allowed to operate that vehicle.
Right.
So assuming someone's got a vehicle and a personal license, they can ride the vehicle and it's operational.
What percentage of those people are, is there anyone who's just not, who's getting turned down, who's applying?
Or they all just, once they apply and have a licensed vehicle, they're going to be able to become a pedicab operator?
No, we have been denying folks that renewal and revoking licenses.
I know you mentioned you revoked 90.
Approximately 90, yes.
But those people then were able to get new licenses again?
Were those 90 were able to, in subsequent years, get a license back?
Typically, there's a cooling off period after you've lost the license, and I think it's like a year, and then you can come back and get another one.
So of those 90, how many of them are currently operating?
I don't have that information, Jay.
Could you get it for us?
That's true.
