Schulman questions DCWP on fixed rates and scannable registration codes
Schulman asks about per-minute rates indexed to inflation and scannable codes. Ortiz says pricing clarity and meters could help, but fixed rates need more discussion, and DCWP is evaluating the cost of scannable registration plates.
Does the administration have any concerns about setting a per-minute rate for pedicabs that's indexed to inflation?
I think, as I was mentioning earlier, pricing clarity is something that I think this industry could benefit from.
Fixed rates is, however, I think it's a big step, not just for the agency, but also for the businesses and for the workers.
So I think I want to make sure that I have understanding of the implications on those businesses'ability to operate, the compliant businesses.
On how fixed rates would impact them.
Certainly, meters is a conversation where we're ready to have.
I think meters would be very beneficial.
Fixed rates, I think, is something that we still want to talk through with the council.
So related a little bit to what the chair asked before in terms of if you go somewhere else, another city, another country or whatever,
does the administration have any concerns with creating a scannable code that can be used to trace the pedicab registration number and the name of the pedicab business?
That we are still evaluating for the cost on scannable registration.
But we can, should this bill advance, we could provide those costs.
Because if you have scannable codes, then it would help somebody actually have scannable codes to how much is supposed to charge and all that kind of stuff.
All of that, that somebody who's not from somewhere else can do that.
Yes, I understand the goals for the scannable codes.
I think for us, we would like to share budgetary implications for creating that scannable code for this smaller industry that we license.
But not to say that we're...
Sorry.
No, no, go ahead.
I was going to say, not to say that we're not open to having a discussion about this.
It's just that we want to make sure we're sharing the full context of the implications of legislation.
