Council Member Riley Introduces Intro 1121 on Reentry for Justice-Involved Youth
Riley introduces Intro 1121, establishing a program to support justice-involved youth ages 13-24 transitioning from custody to education, employment, or vocational training.
Councilmember Riley, followed by Councilmember Farias.
Thank you, Acting Majority Leader.
Today I'm proud to introduce three pieces of legislation focused on expanding opportunity, strengthening our city's workforce, and protecting New Yorkers.
First, Intro 1121 will establish a program to support justice-involved and system-involved young people ages 13 to 24 transitioning from custody into education, employment, vocational training, or apprenticeship.
The program will help young people secure necessary documents, complete applications, and connect to opportunities with best efforts to begin that work before they leave custody.
Successful reentry starts with a real pathway forward, and I want to thank my former fellow, Shahani, for coming up with this legislation, and welcome my new fellow, Colleen, to the team, and looking forward to your work that we're going to see soon.
