Hankerson asks about reporting missing baskets and inventory
Hankerson asks whether truck operators must report missing litter baskets. Anderson says workers should report missing baskets and that DSNY conducts quarterly physical inventories of about 25,049 approved locations, finding about 3,300 missing baskets.
I'm going to try and get through these last two, if that's okay, Mr.
Chair.
Are truck operators mandated to report if a litter basket is removed off of their route?
Let's say sanitation, because I've been told by some of your chiefs that sometimes baskets are removed by residents or businesses and not actually the department.
So is a truck operator mandated to report if a basket is not there that they typically see?
Yeah, so the sanitation workers, whether they're on.
Curbside collection service or litter basket collection service should be reporting to us.
We also, on a quarterly basis, do a full litter basket inventory.
So the list.
list of litter basket locations that we have approved right now, I think is like 25,049.
And we will send officers out and do a physical inventory of every single approved location and determine, is there a litter basket on site?
What kind of litter basket?
Is it damaged?
Is it broken?
Does it need to be replaced?
And so we go through that process on a quarterly basis.
That's how right now we know there are about 3,300 missing litter baskets across New York City.
And we are in the process right now of trying to replace every single one of those missing litter baskets.
