Sanchez asks about factors for Intro 987 association requests
Sanchez asks what factors DSNY would consider for association requests for stationary on-street containers. Anderson says DSNY needs enough material to justify the container size and aims for at least 10 to 15 units sharing an Empire bin.
And then my last question on Majority Leader Bray's Intro 987.
Are there any other factors beyond the department's fleet and collection routes that the department would need to take into consideration when assessing the viability of an association's request for stationary on-street containers?
I think the other important factor is just is there enough material there to justify the size of the container.
These containers generally are quite large, and if you had only a handful of single-family homes or a handful of units using one Empire bin, that would probably be a
waste of public space for that bin and a waste of cities'money in terms of purchasing the bin and maintaining it.
So we do want to try to get to at least a minimum number of 10 to 15 units sharing the same Empire bin to sort of hit the minimum threshold.
And then from there, we look at waste generation and other factors to determine the right number of bins to assign.
