Sanchez raises M9 truck parking and school pedestrian safety
Sanchez says trucks displaced from the M9 station are parking on side streets and taking resident parking while the M9 lot sits empty. Anderson says he is not familiar with the specific lot but that DSNY has adjusted parking near the M9 garage due to new school pedestrian traffic.
And speaking of M9, one of my favorite topics, and
Waste equity.
My last question is there has been movement of the trucks from M9 because of the new opening of Success Academy Charter School.
And now the trucks that were in front of the M9 station are now just randomly on side streets, taking away all of the local residents parking and just.
Filling our streets with literally blocks of trucks, while the M9 truck storage facility underneath the bridges just sits empty as of right now.
And so curious, has there been more discussion as to be able to move the trucks that are just sitting on the streets back to the empty parking lot that gets only used for things like, you know,
Harlem Pride.
I think that there is a greater need for the trucks to be there.
I mean, you can probably move them for events like Harlem Pride.
I'm not saying to cancel Harlem Pride.
But has there been any discussion of being able to move the trucks that are just sitting on the streets back to the M9 parking lot?
I'm not familiar with the exact parking lot that you're referring to, but happy to take a look at it.
We have made some adjustments to the parking around the M9 garage, which, as you have mentioned before, the Manhattan 9 garage is in the Bronx.
Bronx 7 and 8 garages are in Manhattan.
It's sort of a weird dynamic there.
But they have enclosed spaces.
It's a much larger facility.
I think if you were to go up to 215th Street, you would see.
sanitation trucks parked all over the place.
But I will say we have tried to rearrange the way that we are parking trucks in the vicinity of the Manhattan Community Board 9 garage because of the additional pedestrian traffic going to and from the new school that opened.
It's certainly something that we are having active conversations with.
Many council members about because there's a few different districts that sort of cover that area.
And, you know, we want to balance the residents'needs with safe pedestrian travel for the school kids, along with our operational needs to be able to provide service to New Yorkers.
Thank you so much.
And you know how much I would love to make sure that the M9 trucks are back at Community Board 9 in Manhattan.
So anything that we can do there would be much appreciated.
