Were required to comply with waste capacity reductions.
In order to ensure effective oversight, the Waste Equity Law imposed reporting and notification requirements on the Department of Sanitation to track the permitted capacity in different waste transportations,
track any impacts on employment from these reductions, alert the mayor and the council in the event that a waste transportation approaches or exceeds their total permitted capacity,
and report on the feasibility of reducing truck traffic in residential neighborhoods through means other than capacity reductions.
Since 2019, DSNY has complied with the law's reporting requirements by publishing annual implementation reports and providing the relevant data for that year.
