Wilson asks about prioritizing replacements in areas without partners
Wilson asks whether DSNY prioritizes basket replacements in areas without community partners. Anderson says BIDs often replace their own baskets, while DSNY conducts quarterly inventories and is replacing every approved missing basket; he offers to discuss additional locations.
And in terms of when you're replacing, you mentioned a lot of the community partners that you have and work with, but I don't know that this is sort of anecdotal, but
I feel like where I don't have a community partner is where I'm missing a lot of my bins.
So do you prioritize your replacements maybe in those areas that don't have a partner?
But like, for instance, in Chelsea, south of Penn Station, tremendous foot traffic.
But that's where I'm missing like a ton of.
That's where I get complaints a lot about baskets being missed.
And there's no community partner there to report on that and to clean them so that they could really use them.
So how does that factor into when you're looking at where to replace, target your replacement?
Yeah, so where there are bids that own and install their own litter baskets, those are obviously getting replaced by the bids.
So there's a...
Much more just sort of attention to those baskets.
And they may even have dozens of extra baskets in inventory ready to go out if something gets damaged or stolen.
Where there are baskets that are only serviced by us and only managed by us, again, it goes
through this process of every quarter we do a full inventory of all of our litter baskets and we are in the process now of replacing every single approved litter basket location that does not currently have a basket.
There may be places in the area that you're talking about that are not currently approved for a litter basket and so they're
It's not technically missing because it wasn't supposed to be there.
If there are places where you think there should be additional litter baskets, we're certainly happy to have that conversation.
Great.
I did send you all a letter about those, so I'd love to know which of those are approved.
I have a draft response to that letter sitting in my inbox right now.
Okay, thank you.
That's all for me.
