Aldebol asks about Mayor's Scholarship Program enrollment

New York City Council · Oct 16, 2026 · starts 1:07:25 · 1 min 11 sec

Aldebol asks how many employees enrolled in the expanded undergraduate scholarship program; Outar says about 91 individuals from roughly 21 agencies applied to schools, and DCAS is collecting award data.

Shirley Aldebol

So the mayor's, I want to get into the mayor's scholarship program, and then I'll pause and see if Councilmember Narcisse has any questions.

Shirley Aldebol

In March of 2026, the mayor and DCAS announced the mayor's scholarship program, which you spoke to in your testimony, which expanded the existing mayor's graduate scholarship program to include undergraduate degree programs.

Shirley Aldebol

How many city employees have enrolled for scholarships for the undergraduate degree program since this announcement was made?

Kadian Outar

So I do want to clarify the process for the scholarship.

Kadian Outar

So one of the things that we do is we work with different schools who determine the scholarship amount that they would want to offer for individual applicants.

Kadian Outar

And so for the major scholarship program that we released, we had about 91 individuals from across, I think, about 21 agencies that submitted an application to the schools.

Kadian Outar

And then we're collecting the data on how many individuals received a scholarship award and the amount that they received.
