Aldebol asks about the Civil Service Modernization Advisory Committee
Aldebol asks whether the committee convened and what legislation could help; Porter says it has met twice, working groups are active, and recommendations are targeted for the end of the year, with an offer to brief the Council.
So on October 5th, the mayor convened a civil service modernization advisory committee comprised of city government
and labor leaders with the goal that the committee identify reform measures that the city and the state can implement to improve the hiring process.
Can you tell us whether the committee has convened yet and what the discussions have looked like so far and whether you think there is any legislation at the city level that would help further the goals of the task force?
So thank you for that.
The committee has convened.
So far, we've had two meetings and conversations are ongoing about recommendations that we want to put forth by the end of the year.
My understanding is that, you know, we're more than open to meet with you separately to, you know, brief you and go more into detail about, you know, our vision for the committee.
But things are moving along.
You have until the end of the year to...
The goal is to have recommendations set by the end of the year.
Okay.
That's a quick timeline.
Yes.
I mean, so far we've met multiple times.
There are working groups that are fully committed to getting this right.
And things are moving very quickly, but we're up for the challenge.
Yeah, I would really...
I think myself and probably other members of the committee would appreciate a briefing so that we can figure out ways that we can
legislatively move some of these processes along at the city level.
I know a lot of it has to go to the, some of it has to go to the state for, for those recommendations have to go to the state, but I think there are ways that city council can be helpful
to implement certain, certain programs or changes in recruitment or workforce development.
So, yeah, I look forward to that.
