Aldebol asks about milestones when employees are most likely to leave
Aldebol asks whether there are spikes in departures at three or five years; Outar says most departing employees leave within zero to four years, citing career development, salary, and work-life balance, and describes an information initiative on career pathways.
And do you see specific milestones after which employees are more likely to leave?
For example, are there trends that show that there's a spike in departures as soon as an employee has been at the agency for three years, five years?
You said nine years is the average.
And do you have any idea what factors could drive those spikes or those periods of time when an employee decides, I've been here five years, I'm out?
So across the board, we're seeing that most employees are leaving.
For the employees that are departing, it's between zero to four years.
And we're seeing the reasons could be different.
If we look at the survey responses, most of them either cited career development,
larger than that and maybe looking at salary and benefits or work-life balance.
And so what that told us is overall, most people really do enjoy working for the city and want to work for the city.
The fact that
career development is one of the things that pops up, lets us know that there is kind of an information
challenge that's there because the city, as you know, with our competitive titles, we have different pathways, there are different programs and opportunities for an employee, even if they're not interested
in staying in their specific agency, there's an opportunity for them to move across other agencies, maintain their benefits and, you know, time off and all of those things that goes with a city employee.
And so what we've been doing is really looking at ways that we can engage employees to share information about those pathways and about those benefits.
And so we have developed an information initiative where we're connecting with employees at different levels to share information about the programs that we have.
